At 12:21 pm EDT the Mad Cyclist completed the second half of the Lewis & Clark route, having covered 1300 miles in 3 weeks. This is added to last summer's ride of 1800 Lewis & Clark miles and another 600+ miles along the Pacific coast of Oregon. I don't even want to THINK about what may be in the plannng stage for the next adventure!

Because of long upload time, I'll post only 6 more pictures. The scenery this year was not nearly so spectacular as last year's trip, but we had the added excitement of tornadoes, thunderstorms, baseball-sized hail, and strong headwinds to keep our attention.

Here are a few shots from Nebraska and Iowa. The "wall" sculpture depicts the elevation changes on the route from St. Louis to Oregon.

The palaces are on Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs, Iowa. We stayed in a state park just a mile away. Tried to trade the motorhome for one of the houses, but no takers.

The keelboat is at Lewis and Clark State Park in Onawa, Iowa. We met the man who built it. He is the nation's leading authority on river craft, and has built almost every boat being displayed at Lewis and Clark events.

We stood along the bank of the Missouri River at St. Charles today--along with up to 10,000 other spectators--to watch the reenactment of the start of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It's been interesting to watch a replay of history under authentic and accurate conditions.

Tomorrow we'll visit the Arch and then on Tuesday Judy will begin biking on the Katy Trail to Hermann, MO, about 60 miles west of St. Charles.

A huge thunderstorm with baseball-sized hail swung just south of us this evening. Whew!

Here are a few pictures of the attractions, events, and reenactments around the St. Charles, MO area.

We will watch as 200 years to the hour, the Corps of Discovery sets out from St. Charles up the Missouri River to retrace Lewis and Clark's route.
